The most distinctive ancient drama convention is the use of masks. Over two decades of researching and enacting the practices of the Greek theatre, Dr. Cohen has worked with her students to develop a method for making usable Greek theatrical masks in accordance with the evidence. Ancient textual and material sources form the basis of that work, and the test of its success is how well the masks serve in performance: do the actors in these masks connect with their audience? Do the advantages to the production outweigh the challenges inherent in masked performance?
This site will be the home of detailed guide for the construction of Greek theatrical masks.
